A Partnership Strengthened Through Collaboration
Sambrook House’s journey with Vayyar began when Telford and Wrekin Council offered a grant to implement Vayyar Care as a falls monitoring system. ICON carried out the building survey and installation, coordinating additional electricians at no extra cost when required.
Initially, the system was delivered through a third‑party software provider. However, when that provider unexpectedly entered receivership, the home suddenly faced uncertainty until Vayyar stepped in to take over the project.
“Vayyar stepped up to the plate immediately and at no extra cost. Alongside ICON, they took over the project, everything began to move with real fluidity and pace. It turned out to be the best thing that could have happened.”
From that moment, the partnership deepened. Vayyar’s own software quickly surpassed the previous platform, offering improved accuracy, fewer false alarms, and powerful new reporting tools. Both Vayyar and ICON worked closely with Sambrook House, responding to suggestions and ensuring the system evolved in line with real‑world needs.
“The software being developed by Vayyar is vastly superior. Both organisations have been incredibly responsive to development suggestions. They’ve made us feel properly involved.”
Life Before Vayyar: The Challenge of Unseen Falls
Before adopting Vayyar Care, Sambrook House faced a familiar challenge, falls that went unnoticed for long periods unless a staff member happened to pass by.
“Many falls wouldn’t get spotted for a significant amount of time. Fall mats helped in some cases, but they created their own risks, especially for people with dementia.”
Vayyar transformed this immediately.
“We now have 24/7 protection. If someone is on the floor for around two minutes, we get an alert. It’s a level of reassurance we simply didn’t have before.”
The Impact: Faster Responses, Better Outcomes, Deeper Insight
Since implementing Vayyar Care and the Involve app, Sambrook House has seen significant improvements across the home:
• Faster staff responsiveness
• Improved outcomes for residents
• Reliable, time‑stamped data for internal and external review
• Movement mapping and behavioural insights
• Early indicators of illness
• Ongoing trials of new features such as out‑of‑bed alerts
“The visibility we now have is remarkable. Insights are presented to the Care Manager that may show the precursor to an illness. It’s become an incredibly valuable system for both staff and residents.
Staff also feel more supported during busy periods and overnight.
“It’s empowering to know there’s a home‑wide system watching for falls 24/7.”
A Growing USP for Sambrook House
As confidence in the system has grown, so has the belief that Vayyar is becoming a defining feature of Sambrook House’s care offering.
“I’ve spoken to families about it, written about it, and as our confidence grows, I believe it could become a real USP for us.”
The owner also values Vayyar’s commitment to continuous improvement.
“The system is continuing to develop with regular software releases. The insight emails and VCHAT have been unexpected but extremely valuable additions.”
Would You Recommend Vayyar to Other Homes?
“Absolutely. Once the system completes its learning phase, the benefits are immediate. Implementation is straightforward, ICON handled everything professionally, and the support from Vayyar has been excellent.”
Looking Ahead
Sambrook House remains committed to delivering outstanding, person-centred care and sees intelligent monitoring technology like Vayyar as an important part of its future. As the sector continues to evolve, the partnership between Sambrook House and Vayyar, demonstrates how thoughtful technology adoption can enhance safety, insight, and quality of life.
“If it saves just one life because of early intervention then it is worth it, but the likelihood is it will save many lives and many hospital visits.”
Customer Reflections: Opportunities for Further Development
“There are still some practical challenges. Decorating a room, moving furniture, or changing beds requires configuration changes that only ICON or Vayyar can currently perform.
We also still experience some false alarms, and the ability for staff to mute alerts on handheld devices can cause issues. A software override would be a great improvement.
Despite these points, the system is excellent. The ongoing development, responsiveness, and potential for early intervention make it invaluable.”
